Privacy Policy
What CourtCast does with your data, in plain English. The short answer: your matches stay on your iPhone.
The short version
- Your video, tracking and scores are processed on your iPhone. JaceAL LLC does not receive your video, audio, scores, health data, location or voice.
- No account, no ads, no analytics. CourtCast contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and we do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
- A few optional things can send data off your phone, only when you use them: exporting or sharing videos, live streaming to a server you choose, a place-name lookup done by Apple, linking nearby phones to the same match, and (off by default) sharing a workout summary with another player. Section 4 covers each one.
- You are in control. You can delete any match from the app, and deleting the app removes the rest. Section 8 shows how.
01Who we are
CourtCast is a pickleball app for iPhone and Apple Watch that films your match, keeps score and assists with line calls. It is published by JaceAL LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the CourtCast app and this website.
CourtCast is currently in public beta on TestFlight. Features, and the details below, may change as the app develops. This policy describes the current beta builds, and we will update it before we change anything that affects your data.
02What CourtCast uses, and why
CourtCast asks iOS for permission before it uses most of these, and you can turn any of them off later in the iOS Settings app. Where a feature is optional, the app still works without it.
| What | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Films the match and tracks the ball, the bounces and the players. | Video is saved on your iPhone. It does not go anywhere unless you export, share or stream it. |
| Microphone | Records the sound of the match with the video. The sound is also analysed on your iPhone to help detect paddle hits. | Audio stays with the video, on your iPhone. |
| Photos (add only) | Saves the videos you export — broadcast video, highlight reels, condensed match, single rallies — to your Photos library. | CourtCast asks only for permission to add to your library. It does not ask to read your existing photos and videos. |
| Location While Using (optional) | One location fix when you start recording, used to name the court (for example a park or club) on the video, and to recognise courts you have filmed before (“venue memory”). | Accuracy is about 100 metres. Saved on your iPhone with the match and the saved court. The name lookup is done by Apple (section 4). If you say no, CourtCast still works. |
| Apple Health (iPhone and Apple Watch) | Reads heart rate, active calories, distance and workouts so each match can show what it cost you, and saves the match as a pickleball workout. | Only after you allow it. Stays in Health and on your iPhone. See section 5. |
| Siri and Shortcuts | Hands-free commands such as “CourtCast point us”, “CourtCast undo” and “CourtCast score”, on iPhone and Apple Watch. | Siri turns what you say into a command and hands CourtCast only that command. CourtCast does not receive or record your voice for this and does not ask for speech-recognition access. Siri itself is Apple’s service, covered by Apple’s privacy policy. |
| Local network and nearby devices | Links phones at the same match so they can share the score, line calls and camera angles, and put each player’s own Apple Watch on the score. | Phone to phone; it does not go through any server of ours. See section 4. |
| Apple Watch connection | Passes the score, controls and workout numbers between your iPhone and your Apple Watch using Apple’s watch connectivity. | Stays between your own devices. |
| Apple Intelligence (optional, supported devices) | Writes match recaps, coaching tips and highlight captions, and powers the on-device AI second referee that double-checks close calls. | Uses Apple’s on-device model. Each feature has its own switch in Settings. It never replaces the camera for line calls. |
| Notifications (optional) | One alert on your iPhone when your highlights are ready. | Created on your iPhone. We do not run a push-notification server. |
| Saved players (optional, off by default) | Recognises players from match to match so names and sides set themselves. | A saved player is clothing colours, hat, paddle colour, height, hitting hand, one small picture and a name you type. CourtCast is designed not to use faces or skin tone. Kept on your iPhone; you can forget players at any time. |
03What stays on your iPhone
CourtCast stores the following on your iPhone, in the app’s own storage, and nowhere else:
- match videos with their sound, thumbnails, and the match record (score, rallies, bounces, line calls and tracking data);
- exports, highlight reels and clips you make;
- recaps, tips and captions written by the on-device model;
- the place name, town and coordinates saved with a match, and your saved courts (location, camera and zoom, where the phone stood, the court’s corners, and a small signature of the view);
- saved players, if you turned that on, and any names you type;
- your settings, including a live-stream address and stream key if you enter them;
- a short technical log of recent activity, held in the app’s memory and discarded when the app closes. It leaves the app only if you tap “Copy diagnostics” and paste it somewhere.
Match videos live in a CourtCast folder that is visible in the iPhone’s Files app (and in Finder when you connect it to a Mac), so you can copy them off yourself. CourtCast marks that folder to be left out of device backups. Other app data, such as settings, saved courts and match records, may be included in your iPhone’s backups if you use them. Backups are handled by Apple and your device settings.
04What can leave your iPhone
Nothing below happens unless you do it, or turn it on. CourtCast has no account system and no servers of its own that your match data is sent to.
Videos and clips you export or share
When you save to Photos, share, AirDrop or copy a video out, it goes where you send it, and that service’s or person’s rules apply (including iCloud Photos, if you use it). A video can show the score, player names you entered, and the court’s name, so check it before you share. Matches can also show other people: please follow your venue’s rules and ask players before you post or stream.
Live streaming (optional)
If you use live streaming, CourtCast sends live video, sound and the score bug to the server address you enter (for example YouTube or Twitch, or any RTMP server), only while you are live. We do not receive it. The stream key you enter is stored on your iPhone in the app’s settings; clear it any time under Settings. The provider’s terms and privacy policy apply to what you stream. A plain rtmp:// address is not encrypted in transit.
Nearby phones in the same match
When you start or join a match link, CourtCast talks directly to the other phones using Apple’s Multipeer Connectivity (peer-to-peer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), not through us. Phones in the match can see the match code, the score and line calls, ball and bounce events, camera views from camera phones, each phone’s role, and the link name of each device. That name defaults to your iPhone’s device name, which may include your own name, unless you change it in the app. CourtCast requests an encrypted connection but does not insist on one, which is why workout summaries, if you choose to share one, are sealed separately (section 5).
Place-name lookup
To turn the one location fix into a court name, CourtCast uses Apple’s reverse-geocoding service. That sends the coordinates to Apple, which handles them under Apple’s privacy policy. CourtCast keeps only a park or club name and a town, never a street address, and does not ask again for the same match.
Apple services you use with CourtCast
Because the beta is distributed through TestFlight, Apple collects information about your installation, as described in Apple’s TestFlight and privacy terms. Siri, iCloud, Health and Apple Intelligence are also Apple services governed by Apple’s policies.
Messages you send us
Emails and TestFlight feedback you send are covered in section 6.
05Health data and sharing a workout summary
If you allow it, CourtCast reads heart rate, active calories, walking and running distance, and workouts from Apple Health, and your Apple Watch saves the match as a pickleball workout. The numbers appear on your own iPhone and watch. They stay in Health and in that match’s record on your iPhone. We do not receive them, and we do not use Health data for advertising or marketing or give it to data brokers.
Sharing with another player’s match (off by default)
If your phone joins someone else’s match, your watch can follow the score and your workout stays in your own Health. Only if you turn on “Share my workout summary”, your phone sends the organiser’s phone, when the match ends, a summary of:
- the name you typed for sharing (or “Player”, never your phone’s name);
- your average and highest heart rate, active calories, and how long the match ran.
The summary is end-to-end encrypted: it is sealed for the organiser’s phone with a one-off key exchange and authenticated encryption, so only that phone can open it. It travels phone to phone over the match link, with no server involved. It is kept with that match on the organiser’s phone and deleted when the match is deleted, and the organiser can delete it on its own. You can take it back under Settings › Workout sharing › Remove. Your phone asks the organiser’s phone to delete it the next time the two are linked. CourtCast cannot pull data back from a phone that is gone or that you never link to again, so share only with people you would tell anyway.
06What we collect
From the app, nothing. There are no accounts, no usage analytics and no advertising identifiers, and the app does not send us your video, audio, scores, location, health data or contacts.
What we do receive is what you choose to send:
- Emails. Your email address and whatever you write, if you contact us.
- TestFlight feedback and crash reports. If you send beta feedback, TestFlight shares it with us. It can include your comment, a screenshot if you attach one, your device model, iOS version and app build, and your email address if you choose to include it. TestFlight may also share crash reports with developers, subject to your iOS Analytics & Improvements settings and Apple’s terms.
We use these only to answer you, fix problems and improve the app. If you copy the diagnostics log into an email, remember that it is a technical log and may include things like the names of linked devices. Read it before you send it.
07Third parties and SDKs
CourtCast contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. It includes one open-source library for live streaming (HaishinKit), which does nothing unless you start a live stream. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
The Apple services described above, and any destination you choose for an export or stream, are separate from us and have their own policies.
08Retention and deleting your data
CourtCast keeps your matches on your iPhone until you delete them. We hold nothing else about them, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side. To remove things yourself:
- A match. Press and hold it on the home screen and choose Delete match. That removes its video, exports and clips, recaps and captions, saved place, edits, and any workout summaries stored with it.
- Saved courts. Open the saved-courts list from the camera’s Ready? panel, swipe to forget one, or choose Forget all saved courts.
- Saved players. Settings › Players › Forget all players.
- Workout summaries you shared. Settings › Workout sharing › Remove.
- Stream key. Clear it under Settings › Live streaming.
- Everything on the phone. Delete the CourtCast app. That removes the data it stores on your iPhone, including its Files folder. It does not remove copies you exported to Photos or elsewhere, workouts saved in Apple Health, or device backups; delete those in Photos, Files, Health and your backup settings.
- Permissions. Turn Camera, Microphone, Photos, Location, Local Network, Notifications and Health access off any time in iOS Settings.
Emails and feedback you send us are kept as long as we need them to help you and improve the app. Ask us to delete them any time using the address in section 14.
09Children
CourtCast is a general-audience sports app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not send your data to us, so we hold none from the app. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
10Security
Your match data lives in the app’s storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS’s own safeguards such as your passcode. Because match videos are also visible in the Files app, anyone who can use your unlocked iPhone can see them. Workout summaries shared between players are end-to-end encrypted, as described in section 5. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11Your choices and rights
You can turn off any permission in iOS Settings, switch off the optional features inside the app, and delete any data as described in section 8. Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information, such as access, correction, deletion or objection. Because CourtCast keeps its data on your device and we do not receive it, most of that is already in your hands in the app. For anything we do hold, such as an email you sent, contact us and we will help.
12This website
This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Its fonts and images are served from the site itself, with these exceptions:
- Hosting. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes ordinary technical request data, such as your IP address and browser details, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare’s policies.
- YouTube. The video thumbnails in the “Real games” section load from YouTube’s image servers, which receive your IP address and browser details. A video loads from
youtube-nocookie.com(YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode) only after you press play, and YouTube’s and Google’s policies then apply. - Links out. Links to TestFlight, YouTube and email take you to other services.
13Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change affects how your data is used, we will update the policy before it takes effect and note it in the beta’s release notes.
