01Quick start

High

The higher the phone, the sharper the far-side calls.

Behind the baseline

Stand it behind one baseline, in landscape, roughly centred on the court.

Whole court in frame

Both baselines, both sidelines and the net should be in the picture.

  1. Mount your iPhone so it is steady. A phone that moves mid-match makes tracking harder.
  2. Open CourtCast and run the setup check. It tells you whether the camera placement is good, so adjust until it is happy.
  3. Use the zoom (in 0.1× steps, on the back or front camera) so the court fills the frame without cutting off a line.
  4. Press Start. CourtCast records, tracks and scores. Venue memory remembers this court for next time.

02Camera placement

Accuracy improves every build. Best results come with the camera high and behind the baseline.

Side-view diagram of an iPhone mounted high behind the baseline of a pickleball court The phone sits on a stand behind the near baseline, up high and angled down, so its view covers the near baseline, the net and the far baseline. Near baseline Net Far baseline iPhone: high, behind the baseline
Side view, not to scale. Up high and behind the baseline, the whole court is in the picture, including the near baseline, the net and the far baseline. Keep the phone in landscape.
  • Wipe the lens, and keep bright lights from shining straight into it.
  • Court lights are fine; the sample games on this site were recorded at night.
  • If the setup check is not happy, move higher or further back, then check again.

03Troubleshooting

My Apple Watch will not connect
  • Keep the iPhone and watch close together, with Bluetooth on, and the watch unlocked and on your wrist.
  • Make sure CourtCast is installed on the watch. It normally installs with the iPhone app; check the Watch app on your iPhone.
  • Open CourtCast on the iPhone first and start the match there. The watch app opens into the workout. If it does not, open CourtCast on the watch.
  • Allow Health access on both devices when asked. You can check it in iOS Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › CourtCast.
  • Update to the latest TestFlight build, then restart the watch and the iPhone.
Siri does not understand “CourtCast point us”
  • Say “Hey Siri” first, or on Apple Watch raise your wrist and speak.
  • A match needs to be open on the iPhone. Without one, Siri says there is no match running.
  • If Siri mishears the name, try “Court Cast” or just “Court”, for example “Court undo”. You can also say “Point us in CourtCast”.
  • “Us” is your team. Set which team you are on in Settings, and on the watch on its second page.
  • Check that Siri is turned on in iOS Settings. There is nothing to set up in CourtCast itself.

The full phrase list is below.

My second phone will not link as another camera
  • Open CourtCast on both phones, on the same build.
  • Allow Local Network for CourtCast on both phones: iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › CourtCast.
  • Keep the phones close together with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. They connect directly, but if they cannot find each other, putting both on the same Wi-Fi network usually helps.
  • On the main phone, start a linked match to show the match code and QR code. On the second phone, scan the QR code with the iPhone Camera, tap the invite link, or choose Join a match and type the code.
  • A camera that joins mid-match is fine; it only misses the first points.
Tracking or line calls are poor at a crowded venue
  • Frame your court so it fills the picture and neighbouring courts take up as little of it as possible.
  • Mount the phone higher and behind your own baseline, away from places where people walk in front of the lens.
  • Make sure the court lines are clearly visible, and run the setup check.
  • Close calls are marked as unsure instead of guessed. Review them after the match.
  • Send us feedback with a screenshot (below). Crowded courts are exactly what we want to see.

CourtCast is a beta. Accuracy improves every build; best results with the camera high and behind the baseline.

Recording stopped, or my iPhone is running out of space

Match video takes roughly 95 MB per minute. Settings › Storage shows what your matches use and about how many minutes of room are left. Delete old matches, or copy the videos to your computer from the Files app, then delete them in CourtCast.

04Siri phrases

These work on iPhone and Apple Watch with no setup. Say “Hey Siri” first.

SayWhat it does
“CourtCast point us”Your team won the rally. Also “CourtCast we won”.
“CourtCast point them”The other team won it. Also “CourtCast they won”.
“CourtCast undo”Takes back the last point.
“CourtCast score”Says the score, who is serving and the game.
“CourtCast overturn”Takes back the camera’s call; then say who won.
“CourtCast fix the score”Siri asks for both scores.
“CourtCast our serve”Or “CourtCast their serve”.
“CourtCast new game”Starts the next game now.

05Send feedback with TestFlight

The fastest way to help us fix something is to send feedback from inside the beta, with a screenshot.

  1. While CourtCast is open on the problem, take a screenshot (side button and volume up).
  2. Tap the screenshot thumbnail in the corner, then tap Share Beta Feedback.
  3. Write what you were doing and what you expected, choose whether to include the screenshot, and submit.

You can also open the TestFlight app, tap CourtCast, and choose Send Beta Feedback. If CourtCast ever crashes, iOS may offer to share the crash report with the developer; saying yes helps a lot.

In Settings › About & diagnostics, “Copy diagnostics” copies a technical log (no video) that you can paste into an email to us. Read it before you send it.

06Delete your data

Your matches live on your iPhone, so you are the one who deletes them:

  • A match: press and hold it on the home screen, then Delete match. Its video, exports, clips, recaps and saved place go with it.
  • Saved courts and players: forget them from the saved-courts list and under Settings › Players.
  • Everything: delete the CourtCast app. Copies you saved to Photos, workouts in Apple Health and device backups are separate; delete those in their own apps.

The privacy policy has the full list, including how to take back a shared workout summary.
